A Little Bit of Summer

Summer is not over yet (regardless of all the back-to-school sales you've seen)! We still have a lot more fun to squeeze in, but here's just a tiny little bit of what we've been up to...

Elsa completed her 2nd year of swim lessons at Stevenson Pool...

She also started her first tumbling class at a new gym in Chenoa...

Miles has been pretty happy to tag along...

We had our annual get-together with Erik's friends from home...

We visited Aunt Kaylee at work (a Quad Cities River Bandits Game)...

We've done a lot of swimming...

and a lot of fun in the sun...

Bring it on, August!

Gulf Shores Vacay

Long time, no blog posts....we had a very busy Spring and end-of-school year, and our summer has been off to a fun start! After a not-so-great Spring break (hello flu), the winter that never seemed to end, and considering it might be a while before we will be ready for another beach vacation after the new baby comes, we decided we needed to get away for a week. Many of my coworkers visit the Gulf Shores/Orange Beach area of Alabama so we thought we'd give it a try.

lunch stop somewhere in Kentucky

Overall the 13 hour drive went well (minus a few cranky moments from Miles). Thank goodness for Kindles! We spent the night at an Embassy Suites outside Birmingham to break up the drive a bit. The following morning we finished the drive into Gulf Shores, stopped to stock up on groceries, and made our way to our beachfront condo. After getting settled, we headed out to Tacky Jacks for dinner where the kids loved playing in the sand pit while we waited for a table. After dinner, we had planned on swimming, but heavy rains and a thunderstorm kept us in for the night.

The rest of our time was spent bouncing between the beach and the condo's two pools. Oh and eating. Like a lot of fried food and ice cream. Did you know Alabama has the highest rate of diabetes?

Foam Party at The Hangout after dinner :)

Up and ready to get outside!

Crazy milkshakes at The Yard

We did encounter some nasty storms while we were in Gulf Shores - the weather was a bit unpredictable, but we were still able to get in a lot of outside time. We got very good at packing up all our beach toys in a hurry!
Elsa loved her bunk beds at the condo!

dinner at Luna's

Pool Time!

Our little fish!

Can't go south without breakfast at Waffle House!

Our last evening in Gulf Shores we had dinner at Lulu's. They had lots of things for the kids to do while we waited for a table and live music. Afterwards we visited the state park area that was on the beach near our condo. Miles loved finally getting to walk over the bridge that went over the highway we'd driven past so many times!

The drive home was pretty uneventful - we hit a little more traffic, but nothing major.  It was a fun week, but we were happy to be home sleeping in our own beds!

Easter 2018

Easter 2018 was one for the books. In the week leading up to Easter, there might have been a 24 hour period when all of us were healthy. The stomach flu hit our house hard which made for a less than fun Spring Break. We still managed to make the best of it and see lots of family! Sadly, one of the most prominent memories I will have will be of Miles puking at brunch Easter morning at my parents' house all over his new outfit and mine as well. Fortunately, as I write this, on the last night of break, we are all feeling much better, our bed sheets have been washed and changed for the third time this week, and we are ready for the final stretch of the school year before summer!

Dying the eggs...

The Easter Bunny visited our house...

We hunted for eggs at Memaw and Papa's...

And we celebrated Easter day at Grandma and Bapa's...
