Celebrating Grampa Dude

My Grampa Dude would have turned 100 years old this past Friday. In his honor, the Flott Family had a Cubs themed birthday celebration at my Aunt Sue and Uncle Bob's new house on the Kankakee River. It was a practically perfect fun-filled summer day. Grampa Dude would be proud (even though the Cubs couldn't get the W)! I typically try to limit the amount of pictures on a blog post, but there were too many great moments to leave any out...

We were missing some family members, but thanks to Facetime we were able to include the Rudolphs in Missouri and my Great Aunt Sis (my Grampa's 98 year old sister) in Southern Illinois. She played "Take Me Out to The Ball Game" and "Happy Birthday" on the organ...very cool moment!

Next up - some kayaking on the river...

Naptime for Miles

Grandma took a turn!

Youngest Cubs fan!

After an awesome ball-park style lunch we had to have dessert - cake and ice cream sundaes served in Cubs helmets!

We finished the evening with s'mores on the fire...

Lots of memories shared and lots of memories made!

Sunny Days

There tends to be a bit of a transition from the hustle and bustle of the school year to being at home all summer, but we've finally gotten in a good groove. We've spent some sunny mornings at our local park...Elsa loves to swing, play on the teeter-totter (or the turtle as she calls it), and she especially likes to play "Pirates." The playground serves as her ship, and any other children (usually several years older) in the area are recruited to help her look for the gold treasure whether they really agree to or not :)

We don't actually know these kids, and I'm not sure they realized they were playing, but Elsa made some new friends!

Most afternoons we end up in the pool...

Being busy being not busy makes for a perfect summer. I'm trying to soak it all in and stay in the moment, all while taking pictures and videos, and writing down as much as I can because these moments and ages are just so precious!
