Two

Dear Miles,

This weekend we celebrated your 2nd birthday! We could not be more proud of you. Over the past year, you have really started to establish yourself as a force in the house, no longer content to go with whatever your big sister wants. You have opinions - sometimes quite strong- about what to eat, what’s on the television, and what you wear. It’s fun to hear you come into your voice as well...it seems like each day you have new phrases ... it’s my turn, I do that, Let’s go momma....

Looking back at photos and notes I jotted down from the past year, a common theme seemed to be how adventurous you are....as long as your mom or dad aren’t too far off. You are a thrill seeker - climbing anything and everything, jumping, and trying to do anything you see the bigger kids doing. You love to play outside and swim and are ever curious about the lawn mower and every vehicle you see.

As we planned your birthday party, you were so excited. You loved the decorations and talking about who was coming. We talked about the cake and how we would sing "Happy Birthday" to you. On the day of the party, we were reminded, that although you love playing with all your cousins, and loved opening presents, and loved being sung to and eating the frosting off your cake, that it was all a little much for you. We were reminded, that you really are happiest being snuggled up, especially with your momma, away from the noise. From the day you were born you have been that way... for over an hour after you were born, you made it clear that you were very content to stay on your mother's chest, not quite ready for the cameras and visitors.

You make us laugh everyday. When we ask you how old you are, you confidently say you are three (and hold up 5 fingers). You like to dance and play music. You love to lay on your belly and play with your cars and trucks. You and your sister like to play make believe - some days you are puppies, some days super heroes.

You give the sweetest hugs and kissies. You tell Elsa night night each night before going to bed. Speaking of bed, you've really decided you sleep best in our bed. Your dad might not always agree, but you are really a great snuggler (you have a habit of kicking in his direction). We'll get working on that big boy thing soon enough...

Miles, my wish for you on your 2nd birthday is that you will always come to your momma when you need a hug or some reassurance. I hope your next year is filled with even more adventures and days filled with make believe. We love you so much Mister Man!
